Principles of Care for the Optimal Management of Systemic Anticancer Therapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting in the UK

Effective management of nausea and vomiting caused by systemic anticancer therapy (SACT) is essential to maintain patients’ quality of life and ensure treatment success.
Despite existing guidelines, a UK audit revealed significant variation in practice across centres1. To address this, UK oncology experts, in collaboration with Chugai, developed the Principles of Care for the optimal management of SACT-induced nausea and vomiting (SACT-INV).
The principles define five key management areas and ten core principles, providing evidence-based guidance to ensure consistent, high-quality care. Healthcare professionals involved in commissioning and delivering care for people receiving SACT are encouraged to adopt these principles to promote optimal management of SACT-INV and support improved patient outcomes across UK oncology services.
